Earning Money Out of Your Toy Collection
Four
years ago, my son persistently asked me to buy him a Nerf Blaster (toy gun) which he had seen
from Cartoon Network Ads. This toy gun uses foam darts and discs made by
Hasbro. Simply thinking that this toy is made by Hasbro, the maker of quality
toys, I didn't quite hesitate to buy him one. As a matter of fact, Wikipedia
has well - documented Nerf Blasters via this link --
The
first blaster I bought for my son was the Recon CS-6. Because of the
toy's quality and performance, my husband liked it too and
unexpectedly, became so addicted, thus, started collecting some units.
Since we were both working and quite earning well, he can afford to buy every
latest unit out in the malls. The price normally ranges from Php 1,000 to
Php 3,500 per unit depending on the Blaster feature. We were spending Php 5,000 per our monthly pay out just for Nerf Blasters. I was quite furious since I
didn't find it practical at all. Such price for toys???

Little did I know,
my husband was as well exploring buy and sell via online thrift shop. He was having
deals and meetups, buying second-hand Nerf toys. Though I was kept informed
about this, I was skeptical and worried since I didn't find it safe for
him making deals and meetups with strangers in different places.
After more than a
year, I never expected that I will be resigning from work. Couple of reasons
but the main one is Work- Life Balance. I only have one child but I got so drowned
with work which resulted to my family needs being left unattended. Bottom line, I have chosen family over career
after all those constant unhealthy arguments between me and my husband. With this,
as expected, budget has been affected. Couple of months after my
resignation, my final pay and our savings were all exhausted for our
expenses (school expenses, food, allowance, bills).
My husband was so
optimistic, reminding me that we'll get through the tight moments. I never
thought that his toy collection would save us from our finances whilst I am
unemployed. He had several buyers even from far places, provinces from North.
Some Nerf blasters were consigned whilst most of them were sold through
meetups. The second-hand Nerf blasters he had from buy and sell were sold twice
the price they were purchased. Limited edition blasters were more
expensive. My husband asked some of his friends as well from abroad to buy
him the latest units which are not yet introduced and sold in the country.
These were all sold, with him, having a good profit whilst having an expansion
to his collection. Bonus is, we had more quality time to spend together as a
family during our "Nerf War" extending it with my brother-in-law's
family.
Conspicuously, collecting toys
can be satiable to most collectors and may also be indeed
helpful, letting you earn money in hassle-free ways. You can
start making your own sideline out of your old yet still valuable
stuff like toys. We just have to be persistent, patient and resourceful. Above
all, remain faithful, for God truly always makes a way.
